Becky Wooton Gift was born in Hazard KY on June 16, 1935 and attended high school in Huntington, WV.
Becky completed college at Marshall University, majoring in art. Upon graduation, she worked as an artist in Nashville, TN, where she met her husband, Richard Gift; they were married for 58 years, until his death in 2017. They raised two daughters, Virginia (died 2013) and Nancy. They moved to Lexington in the mid-1960’s. Becky painted, quilted, made dresses, and created stained glass. She was a collector - almost a rescuer - of varied antiques and had a good eye for original watercolors. She was active in support of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, an organization that helped her daughter Virginia. She was a long term survivor of breast cancer, after being initially diagnosed in 1988. She was a member of Hunter Presbyterian Church. She was a strong advocate of breastfeeding, loved planting trees, and her happiest meals involved freshly picked sweet corn and homegrown tomatoes.
Becky is survived by her daughter, Nancy Gift, son-in-law Jim Trimble, her two granddaughters, Emily (and fiancée Hannah) and Hazel (and partner Jordan), and her siblings Shirley and Charles (“Bud”) .
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Child Victim’s Trust Fund with the State of Kentucky. https://www.ag.ky.gov/Resources/Child-Abuse/Pages/Donate.aspx
Her life will be celebrated in a service at Hunter Presbyterian Church on November 14th at 11 am.
