Gary J. Steinkuhl, 77, husband of 54 years to Barbara M. Steinkuhl, passed away Feb. 24, 2023, at Baptist Health in Lexington, KY. Born April 24, 1945, in Cincinnati, OH, Gary was the son of the late Charles H. and Luella Held Steinkuhl. While Gary enjoyed a long career as a Service Manager at IBM, the things he loved most in his life were, camping, fishing, and weekends on the houseboat at Lake Cumberland. Gary served on the U.S.S. Saratoga while in the Navy, he was also a HAM radio operator. Gary never met a stranger and was a skilled mechanic, carpenter and a "hands on fix it yourself man". He could often be found eating pretzels and beer cheese, carrying a red handkerchief with a "MacGyver knife" in his pocket. Above all, Gary loved spending time with his family. In addition to his wife Barbara, Gary is survived by his children, Jeni Steinkuhl, Andy (Amy) Steinkuhl, and Katie (Justin) Peel; he loved his grandchildren and was affectionally called Gpold/Grandpawpold by Avery (Bella), Jaylen, Alleyse, and Aedan. He is preceded in death by his beloved son, Doug. Arrangements are pending at Great Crossing Funeral & Cremation, 1400 N. Broadway, Lexington, KY 40505. A celebration of life will be set for a future date to be determined.
