Gloria Mae Farrington (nee Thompson), 61, cherished mother and grandmother, peacefully passed from this life on Thursday, February 15th, 2024 surrounded by her children, her best friend and cousin Shirley Ann, and other family at UK Chandler Hospital in Lexington, KY.
She is preceded in Death by her parents, John Logan Thompson and Dessie Mae Kidd; an infant child; her brothers Jerry, Walter, and Carl; a sister Betty Pearl; and several other half-siblings.
Surviving are her daughter, Dakota ‘Annie’ Farrington of Georgetown, KY; 3 sons, Bryan Farrington of Somerset, KY, Dr. William Farrington (Katie) of Big Piney, Wyoming, and Carlis Thompson of Oneida, TN; 15 grandchildren; 3 sisters; and several nieces & nephews.
Gloria was known by all to love singing, especially in choirs, spending time with children and animals, a kind soul with a warm hug, and loving to all she encountered. She was an avid fan of basketball, music, dancing and reading “Chicken Soup For The Soul” books. Gloria loved her family, her careers as a teacher and a nurse, spreading laughter, and making friends everywhere she went. In her earlier years she was known for her fun-loving spirit, an angelic singing voice, a love of fast cars, quick humor, and her ability to connect with others, especially those that were her patients. Her last weeks were spent in the company of her daughter and nurses, happily making crafts, visiting with therapy animals, reading, writing, and planning for future travels.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at Liberty Baptist Church in Kidder, KY at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2024, which would have been Gloria’s birthday.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to be made to Gloria’s daughter Dakota, or Great Crossing Funeral & Cremation in Lexington, KY to help carry out Gloria’s final wishes.
