Michael Barnett Simmonds, 70, husband of Linda Sue Mikesell Simmonds, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2024 at his home in Lexington.
Born February 28, 1954 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Edward Earl & Jean Barnett Simmonds, he worked as a supervisor for Bandana Yardbirds for more than 20 years and later retired as a supervisor for Lakeshore Learning. Mike enjoyed visiting casinos, playing games (especially Risk), and became very interested in politics during retirement. His greatest joy came from being “Papa” to his many grandchildren.
Additional survivors include his children: Michael, Lauren, & Kristen (Josh) Simmonds, Candace (Bobby) Leavitt & Charles (Chasity) Cowsert; three brothers, Steve, Jimmy, and Rex; his grandchildren: Jordan Reynolds (Natalie), Haleigh Simmonds, Lily Reynolds, Kendall Simmonds, Maddie Perkins, Gavin Reynolds, Gabriel Perez, Caden Simmonds, Ethan Rhodes, Jacob Perkins, Nate, Addy & Bobby Leavitt, and Braelynn & McKynzie Cowsert; his great-grandchild: Jayce, and a large extended family.
Preceding him in death were a brother, Ricky Simmonds, his mother, Jean, his father, Ed, and his stepmother, Helen.
A Gathering of Family & Friends will be held 6:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 4th at Great Crossing Funeral & Cremation with a Time of Remembrance following at 8:00 P.M. To honor Mike’s love of music, please wear your favorite band shirt & jeans.
